The style (look) of the patio furniture is probably the most important criteria that you will use to determine what to buy. If you don’t like the look of a piece, you simply won’t buy it. There is no rule on what styles are better. Each person has their own taste in furniture just as they do when buying a car or anything else. Not a lot of help I know. Here are some guidelines on choosing a style that will help when choosing a style of
patio furniture.
1) Similar Style – try to find furniture that complements or has a similar style to your current furniture. If you have a lot of Adirondack types of furniture, it would be best to stay with that style. It is not recommended to mix styles if you can avoid it. Here is more information on
patio furniture styles
2) Area Styles – this is the style of your area, house and community. You will find for example that Adirondack style of furniture is more commonly found in the north east whereas a mission style is found in the southwest. Each area usually has its own style.
3) Material – Try to stay with a similar material. If your outside area used metal or aluminum, I would recommend that you stay with a similar material. Here are some exceptions. There are very good collections of furniture made from recycled plastics. These plastics come in a variety of colors. These colors along with the texture can be complementary to real woods, especially the harder woods like cedar and cherry. The actually color of the wood is not as important. Try not to match too many types of wood. At the most, use only two if you must. It is better to use a single species of wood with the exception noted above.
4) Weathering – Most woods will turn a silver grey over time not matter how you take care of the furniture. With this in mind, consider the colors of fabric you will choose when selecting a type of wood.
