Yellow poplar trees grow taller than any other US hardwood species and they are members of the magnolia family. Poplar lumber is being used more often in furniture construction. Poplar is less expensive than cedar or redwood but is just as strong. Poplar has a smoother grain surface than pine, redwood or cedar making it an excellent choice for painting. Poplar is not as water and disease resistant as cedar or redwood however. We offer the poplar furniture as an alternative the more expensive cedar and redwood because of the cost.

Pine trees are found throughout the US. There are numerous types of pine trees that can produce furniture grade lumber. Lumber from pine trees is the most widely available and regulated type of lumber currently available. Pine is a softwood that absorbs water readily and splits easily. Our pine lumber is pressure treated before and after being kiln dried. Pine is not as hard or decay/insect resistant as cedar or redwood but is less expensive. The pressure treated pine is ideal for painting.
